In the next few months you will be experiencing many changes in our network. By July 1 st we will have migrated from Novell to a full Windows 2003 Active Directory network. This should bring about many exciting new changes. The first is that every teacher computer, including the Mac’s will have a copy of Microsoft office. Every Windows based PC that is connected to our network will be running on Windows XP Professional.

All faculty and staff will have a trussvillecityschools email address. Every teacher will have their own fax number and voice mail. Every faculty and staff member will have the ability to store files on a centrally based file server. This means backups of critical data will be handled at our Central Office. You will no longer have to worry about losing anything on your computer, or worry about backing up files at the end of the school year. We will be giving teachers the ability to publish their own web pages. We will also be allowing secure access to our network from the outside, so anyone who desires can work from home.

One of the most exciting changes will be the implementation of Microsoft Sharepoint Services. This a network wide collaboration tool that allows for sharing of documents and data.

Currently we have a work order submission system setup under the technology area of the web site. Please use this for any computer issues you may have. We ask that you be patient with us. We are here to not only make a reliable and fast network, but also to supply any technology training that you need. During the month of June we have to install 15 new Windows servers, an entire new phone system at five locations, build an email and voice mail system, and physically format and reinstall Windows on over 700 machines. This is a monumental task for an army of computer guys to accomplish. We are a staff of three, and have 30 days to finish. I ask for your patience, because there will be issues to address for every user at the beginning of school. We will be processing work orders as fast as we can to accommodate everyone. Remember once we get past the glitches, these changes will set us apart from many schools in the nation. We will have some of the latest and greatest technology tools to enhance student learning, and empower teachers.

I thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience.

Sincerely,

Shawn Nutting

Director of Technology
